For any of you who are planning to host a delicious Thanksgiving feast at your home, here are a few lovely table settings to inspire.
Since all of us can be quite particular about our Thanksgiving traditions and even our hostessing style, I gave this design post an interesting twist. Dare I say a Diva twist? See if you find your personality type or table-setting style. Or someone you know!
THE FORMAL DIVA:
Her best silver is polished and ready for service. Florist has delivered the perfect shade of spice-colored mums for her centerpiece. And housekeeper, Inga, is pressing all linens. Nails done, check. Hair perfect, check. Dogs groomed, check. Pre-cooked organic turkey ordered and delivered, check. This diva also makes certain to have an ample supply of the finest wine available for sipping so that listening to her dear in-laws' antics are that much more tolerable. Cheers, darling.
THE TRADITIONAL DIVA:
She's made sure to invite not only family but dear friends as well. Even though her homemade pumpkin pie is a touch overly cooked on top, she still remains upbeat. After all, she was able to score some lovely fresh potted flowers for decorating her grandmother's Baker table she inherited years ago. And how nicely they'll compliment the heirloom china her decorator scored for her on e-bay.
THE WHIMSICAL DIVA:
After Pilates class, she leisurely strolled through the fresh market with a warm cup of chamomile tea, picking up a few ripe gourds and miniature pumpkins. She'll clip the roses from her garden the morning of Thanksgiving and place them in her vintage silver bowls. Since she and friends are all vegetarians, they'll be dining on home made butternut squash soup, spinach salad and warm millet bread. Love, peace and happiness. So much to be thankful for.
THE SENTIMENTAL DIVA:
She's
always conscientious of everyone's birthday, anniversary or special life
event. If you ever come to her home for a meal you know you'll be
presented with a most thoughtful parting gift, handwritten poem about universal
love or a packet of wildflower seeds planted in most adorable terracotta pot. This doting diva has even been known to throw a soiree for a friend who made it through menopause! For Thanksgiving this year, each of her
guests receive a lovely hand-engraved sterling silver ornament to
place on their Christmas tree. As far as she's concerned, it's the giving that's far better than receiving.
THE MARTHA-DIVA:
This feast has been planned with great pleasure for precisely seven weeks. No detail forgotten. Right down to selecting the perfect harvest tones of red and green pears for her lovely centerpiece. Since she was able to send sweet hand-written notes to guests inviting them to her dinner, everyone has signed up for which casserole to bring. To make it just a little easier, she emailed each guest a recipe for the casserole or dessert they agreed to carry along. Let's just hope her dog, Fido, doesn't ruin the perfect day by eating her home made dressing when she departs from the kitchen to put on her freshly starched shirt, pearls and A-line plaid skirt.
THE OVER-ACHIEVER-MOM DIVA:
This busy mom and PTA prez googled every Thanksgiving craft thinkable before deciding on the centerpiece of finger puppets to entertain those precious children who will gather around her table on the big day. Forget the adults, this Type-A Momma is determined to be known as the toddler-whisperer of the neighborhood. Since she's a natural at delegating, all dishes for the dinner have been accounted for and turned in by her deadline. Let's just hope her husband is sober for the feast.
THE MOD DIVA:
After texting her facebook BFF about the chic idea of painting her pumpkins gold this year, she was thrilled to yet again defy the hum-drum traditions of serving turkey and dressing, with all of the fixings surrounded by fake leaves and those dreadful mums. Husband will be bringing home the Turkey after his 4pm conference call. She even found a pale blue cardi half-price at JCrew to channel her "inner-hostess." And all the more fun, she'll be serving champagne at her Thanksgiving feast.
SO, WHICH DIVA ARE YOU MOST LIKE?
