picks of the week

Even though our heatwave has returned here at the beach, I'm still getting excited for Fall weather.  I'm going to completely ignore the fact that it is 80 degrees and raining over here.  Ugh.  So I'll share a few random fashion picks I've found lately.   Some are easy on the wallet, and some.....not so much.  

:: tomboy jeans ::

Warning:  these bad boys are pricey.  I nearly choked when I bought them, but I think they'll be a good staple in the fall wardrobe. 

 

:: cozy sweater ::

$30.  The color is more like a bright apple green in person.  Perfect for chilly fall days.  Tried it on last night and loved it. 

:: classic boots ::

JCrack, of course.  Not one bit cheap, but a great investment.  I tried these on too when I was in Atlanta and they are pretty comfy.  They seem to run a teesy weensy bit small, felt a little less than half a size too small.

:: preppy grunge scarf :: 

$49.50.  Great for layers.

And if you're looking for a budget friendly scarf, here's one I found at Old Navy last night when we were buying the girls some jeans for school.  When I walked past it on the way to the register, it totally commanded my attention.  It's only $12.50. 

I just checked online but they are sold out so there are no images to share.  The best I can do is show you a [not-so-flattering] blurry iphone pic husband took of me in the car on the way home from us taking offspring to the movies yesterday.   It was so soft, I had to put it on and wear it home!

Here's a much better shot I took of it this morning.  Don't you love that red and grey combo?

impulse control

I have none.  I think we've established that on this blog about a year ago.  

I was bad at JCrack today. 

Rational voice:  Why do they have to come out with new lines every season?  Don't they know that people like me have no self discipline?  I shouldn't have bought anything.  I have a tiny closet with too many clothes and no real outfits.  Why would I buy more?  What's wrong with me?

Shopaholic voice:  It was all good stuff.  I mean, these pieces are classic.  It's not like I went crazy in there or anything.  I was in control.  For the most part.  That's what counts.  It's perfectly fine to act like this.  Let's do it again soon.

Got this little sweater in navy.  Good looking.  

This one is so soft it feels like pajamas and requires no ironing.  Yep, that pretty much meets all of my fashion requirements.  Great piece to wear with jeans or even white linen shorts.  The picture of it above looks great, but the one where it's laying flat looks down right homely.  Don't be fooled, it's very flattering on.  If you're in a warm climate like me, this is a great piece to have for "fall" when it's still 98 degrees outside and you don't want to sweat profusely while wearing something that helps you pretend it's not summer anymore.

And who can live without a ribbon tee?  This one was too fun to pass up. 

Since I occasionally treat my shopping sprees as some kind of warped confessional over here, I'll turn it around and ask you the same...

Just when I think I am strong enough to tear myself away from stalking your deliciously designed threads, I have to go and read an inspiring little piece like this.  I've been so good, haven't bought a thing.  In almost....well I won't admit how long it's been because it really hasn't been that long. 

It's the tiny ruffles, butter-soft cashmere, gauzy linen and vintage styles that snare me into a fashion frenzy every time.  You always make everything look so interesting, simple and effortlessly chic.

I just don't have the strength to resist your temptation.

Just found this sweater on clearance at JCrack.  With its title of "seaside linen cardigan" how can I say no?  Perfect for chilly walks at the beach in the early months of spring.

Husband, please don't intercept this month's statement.  I've been a very bad girl lately.

Hi, I'm Seleta.  I'm a shop-a-holic.  These days I like JCrew.  When visiting my hometown of Atlanta, I scratch and drag my way to the Anthropolgie store.  I love finding pretty things on sale.  You can also find me at flea markets, Homegoods, and fabulous antique markets.

This may not be an exciting post, but I sure felt snazzy today when I put on my new duds from a great sale last night.  Shout out to Blake at JCrew in Destin, you rock. 

It's fun wearing things that make you feel good, don't you think?  Doesn't have to be expensive, it's just fun to feel like you look your best.  Especially after you've spent a long weekend frumping around your house while locked inside caring for sick little ones.   And being thrown-up on.

But the icing on the cake was scoring a pair of half price jeans from nearby Willow that friend Morgan brought home for me to preview.  Having a good friend who works in a high end boutique is a double edged sword.  How do you say no to amazing jeans that make you feel like the antithesis of a washed-up mom of four?  Hello.  Thanks Morgan and Willow!!!  Look at their beautiful blog here.  And one of my favorite bloggers is about to renovate their store.  Take a peek here.

Since you asked, here are a few of my finds from last night.

You knew it would start with a winter white sweater.  Oh, me and white.  Also picked up a delicious grey one in the same style.  

This sassy belt.

Yes, I actually bought these golden pants.  Wild hair.  Also snagged 'em in steel and black.  Don't judge, they were 20% off the sale price and then another 20% off.  They're here.

My fav.  So girly.  It goes with everything.  Right here.

Here's what it looks like on a 25-year-old model who's five-foot-eleven and weighs 90 pounds. 

And several of these tanks.  They are butter soft and were dirt cheap with the extra discounts.

These beads, adored them.

And what would a brisk beach bike ride be without a stylish puffer?  We bike ride daily, so it made sense.  Forget that it's still tropical temperatures here, I'm wearing it while I blog.  Each night, beginning about now, husband cranks up the a/c to the point of it feeling like a meat locker in here.  So it was a practical purchase for year 'round wear.

So tell me, what's your addiction?

If you like to shop, don't live near me.  I will only get you into trouble.  I can justify pretty much any purchase.

A friend called me last week to let me know about a great sale going on at a high-end local design store near us...she said, "meet me there tomorrow, everything's 50% off!"  Of course whenever a friend [or anyone else for that matter] says something like that to me it's like some alarm goes off in my head and I switch into manic-shopper-crazy-girl mode.  All of my self-control and shopping boundaries go out the window.  Can you relate?

First thing I thought about with the half off sale was the John Derian inventory in that store.  I had a mental list of every piece they had in there.  Come to momma.

And yep, I snagged three little plates.

I'm not much of a butterfly girl, and these pics don't really do them justice, but I liked them.  So they went home with me.  Half price.  They'll look cool somewhere.  My motto.  Thanks to my motto I have a storage room full of newly upholstered chairs, $3,000 worth of brand new unopened Matteo bedding, a spankin' new custom made dining table, and bolts of unused fabric.  Sickness?  Perhaps.

Or perhaps my purchase was just a result of anticipation in seeing John Derian's upcoming collection at Target...I cannot wait.  I bet that the online products he will offer will be gone in a flash.  There are many of us at the gate waiting to pounce.

In other news, I scored plenty of $7 jeans for the female offspring in the fam on Saturday during Old Navy's sale.  The girls were so excited, it was like Christmas at our house.  What a sweet sale that was. 

 

And I love the names for their jeans, like "The Darling".  Perfect for my girls. 

Hmm, maybe they will make a jean that is called, "The Shop-a-Holic".  I would need five pair.
