{$30} office

I was buzzing around and bumped into this snazzy, space-saving office set-up.  Peppy and chic blogger Melinda of Birmingham, Alabama blogged about making this little office set up for a mere $30.  My favorite features of this space would be:

1. the scale [snagged in Italy]
2. the bulletin boards she made out of foam core and covered with old patterns
3. the silhouette lampshade and lamp, the base was found at a thrift store

back to the office...

I'm still agonizing over designing our carriage house which is currently husband's office.  Little by little I'm getting there.  It's challenging because I know the space is only temporary, so I cannot fully commit to the design choices that would work best if it were permanent.

But a challenge is always fun.  Especially while spending the summer entertaining a houseful of energized offspring who seem to possess more endurance than a fighter pilot flying an F-22 while hopped up on eight cups of coffee.

Moving on...here are a few delightful and somewhat unexpected work spaces.  Hope they inspire.

This could be tons of fun, don't you think?  A faux canopy over a desk.  Why not, it works.

This is so feminine and lovely.  The bookshelves fill in the space perfectly.  Wallcovering dazzles the eye amid a mixture of sassy and southern touches.  But would we expect any less from Ms. Sommers?

Clean and simple.  Always a good choice.  The metal desk with brass pulls is incredible.  Why is it that 90% of interiors I love always seem to be shot by Paul Costello?  Cruise around his site sometime.  You will be amazed.  The man is genius.

And this is a love.  It appears so effortless yet chic.  The makings of a perfect work space if you ask me.

out of the closet...

What is not to like here.  This San Fransisco home owner converted a living room closet into a small but efficient work space.  I love its simplicity and fresh punches of color.

TOTAL PROJECT COST: $1,000

Is it bad that I would have tried to design a desk that allows the door to close while working?  And put a pad lock on the inside?  The offspring could write messages down on a piece of paper and slide it under the door.  Kind of like a primitive faxing system.  Or a poor man's text messaging.
