I had to laugh when I received this picture on a card from my sister today. It's all of the things I cannot have on my new diet. Well, I've never taken Prozac. [and don't have any future plans of taking it]
DID SOMEONE SAY CLEANSE?
I'm sure you're sooooo done with hearing about "cleanses". The good news is I finished an intense cleanse back in mid May and lived to tell. I'll spare you too many details, but thought I would share if you're interested.
THE DEAL...
My cleanse was an "oops" since I did it without even realizing what I was doing. I went to visit a South-African Homeopathic M.D., since I was experiencing low energy, sleep problems and feelings of anxiousness. Hello, isn't that just motherhood? He took blood and saliva samples. Three weeks later I was reviewing blood test results with him that could make a grown man cry. Momma needed change her eating habits! So he sent me home with many herbal supplements, probiotics and some seriously wacked-out diet restrictions.
For the next 21 days I referred to my Dr. as Dr. Kavorkian. Cleansing was one of the most difficult things I had ever done, and my poor family suffered, as I went through mood swings and became the poster child for intermittent psychosis. Sugar withdrawal anyone?
I'm certain the fam experienced things such as this:
ME [in the Exorcist voice]: "I need sugar!!! I need sugar!!! Where's my hatchet?!?! Somebody give me some suuuuuuugggggaaaaarrrrrrr!" [sobbing uncontrollably in the fetal position]
Okay, so maybe I exaggerated a little. It's not like that for everybody. As my Dr. said, I am a little more high strung than the average person. Ya think?
HOW DID THIS HELP YOU?
I now sleep well at night and have much more mental and physical energy. I don't get as stressed out as I used to. I no longer crave refined sugar. I shed the five pounds I was hoping to lose.
It's amazing to me that I was able to change many issues in my life without getting on any prescriptions. I have eliminated several things from my diet: wheat, dairy and caffeine. Notice I did not say sugar? I did cold turkey no refined sugar for a month, but now allow myself a couple of desserts a week. One must have some joy in life, yes?
SO WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME ALL OF THIS?
For me, it happened to be an amazing process. There's a whole reason behind eliminating these items from one's diet. And most Western doctors won't agree, but my homeopathic doctor explained it to me that food is our medicine. Changing your diet will change the way your body functions so you can feel better and age differently. Sidenote: I was also able to totally get rid of my three year old's eczema by taking her off of dairy and wheat. She stopped itching within two days of eliminating wheat and dairy. Crazy!
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED...
If this interests you, then you may want to consider a cleanse or diet change, but it's probably best to do it under the care of an expert so you can load up on probiotics and supplements. Here are some great websites I found that helped me. They may also help you learn more about this topic.
[I have no affiliation with any of these groups]
Click here to take a quiz to see if your problems are yeast connected
Click here to find sugar and gluten free mineral + vitamin supplements for you and your kids
Click here if you want to read more about Candida and how it affects our health
And click here to order a killer drink that helps your body fight off disease-causing bacteria. I swear by this one, it was my one source of comfort during my cleanse, somehow it gave me energy.
THIS SORT OF SOUNDS LIKE SOME WEIRD INFOMMERCIAL, BUT THAT WAS NOT MY INTENT. JUST PASSING ALONG INFO THAT I WISH I HAD WHEN I STARTED THIS WHOLE PROCESS.
In the meantime, I realized that I probably qualified to be on the list of Stuff White People Like
I hear the book is hilarious. You can order it here.
