This weekend I'm giddy because our neighborhood is hosting its annual MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL, which is my absolute favorite event of the year!
Have you heard of this film festival? It's amazing. This is an environmental group from Telluride which tours the world and shows award-winning short films about other cultures, environments and outdoor adventures. The idea was inspired 31 years ago by a group of climbers who saw a film festival in Trento, Italy. You can read all about it here.
One of the things that makes this event so special is that it takes place under the stars in our neighbhorhood's amphitheater. So everyone packs-up their blankets and finds the perfect spot to bundle up and watch a series of award-winning films. Our neighborhood restaurant prepares its famous chili and they set up a huge tent with even more delicious goodies and live music inside. Just outside the tent are several different bonfires where you can make your own smores on sticks. I always fall prey to the smores.
Here is a snippet of one way cool film from last year. It captures the challenges of fishing for the rare Rooster Fish in Baja: [for the record, it's a catch and release]
See if the Film Festival is coming to your neck of the woods. Check their tour schedule here.
Let the good times roll!
