This morning we enjoyed our traditional Christmas breakfast after the offspring unwrapped gifts. Funny, it takes three hours to wrap all the gifts and only three minutes to blast right through them. But every second is priceless and captivating.
Our breakfast consisted of home made spinach + feta quiche, grits casserole, fresh fruit and juice. And don't you know plenty of coffee for mom and dad after staying up playing Santa until 3am. Since this breakfast has become a fun tradition for us, I wanted the table to look nice. All while making it fun, festive and colorful for the kiddos.
So I borrowed an idea from here and made kind of a graphic table runner by simply using satin and grosgrain ribbon. Using different sizes in ribbon makes it all the more interesting. Loved the hand sewn "Merry Christmas" ribbon I found at the very last minute. It worked great as an accent. For added fun, I placed on the table a set of Santa and penguin nesting dolls given to us by my mother many Christmases ago. [I have this childhood fascination with nesting dolls] And I filled three of these same sized jars with dried split peas and placed a large candle in the middle. A favorite white cake stand served as a keeper of small wrapped gifts for each child. And the final touch were small glass ornament balls that I tied with string on our juice glasses. I even made a mini ornament garland out of the remaining bobbles.
In other news, this week we also had one very special 7th birthday to celebrate. We always ensure there's not even a hint of Christmas wrapping on any of her gifts. Even though she's my Christmas baby, she deserves to be a pink princess on her birthday.
We also had plenty of cranberries to string. [Pom Pom watched intently]
And several paintings to make as gifts. This house has many budding artists within its four walls.
When we tucked in our little ones tonight, they each said they didn't want Christmas to end. I think all of us can relate to that feeling a little. It's the joy and magic of the season that's so hard to let go of as we face the coming winter months. So cheers to keeping those twinkling lights burning bright for just a little while longer.
Merry Christmas!
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
